Crusing

Long time...no post. That is what a week vacation will get you. A week away from work and then a week trying to do two weeks worth of work to get caught up. Still haven't got caught up.

But let me go back to a wonderful week of traveling in the carribean. We spent a week on the Rapsody of the Seas (Royal Carribian) out of Galveston. Let me dispel 2 myths: (1) yes you can feel the boat move, and (2) pina coladas taste just as good at 10 in the morning as 10 at night.

We had three ports of call. Montego Bay Jamacia, Georgetown Grand Cayman, and Cozumel Mexico. We got rained on in Jamacia and the locals were a bit of a trip, Cayman and Cozumel were great weather and wonderful. There was one feature in Cayman though that swayed it for me.

Let's just say a nice $11 Margarita at 11 in the morning goes down mighty fine. I guess I need to include a pic of the fam in case you were getting the impression that I wisked away on my own.

I had a great time with my fam...enjoying some time with Jodi and watching the kids just love playing at the beaches and at the pool. Had to get over one case of sea sickness...for poor old Jack. But he toughened through it. He is my little beach bum. Stay at the beach all day, never need to hang out on a boat. Molly was the princess of the ship. By the end of the cruise she had half the staff waiting on her hand and foot. What can I say...my girl is georgous. She obviously gets that from her mother.

So now back on the mainland...dreaming about that next trip to Margaritaville...

Performing artist

Last tuesday we got to attend the end of school show for Jack's preschool. Let's start of by saying you can definately tell there is a lot of money floating around. It was in the church auditorium and they had a huge Noah's Ark and a balloon rainbow a slide show presentation, etc.

I always feel like a dork at one of these things. Taking my camera bags and staking out a place to take pictures. Now, to be fair let me clarify that I full well know I am a registered dork. But I hate feeling like one. I always have to remind myself that it isn't about me and that no one actually cares or is paying attention to me anyway...so off to the balcony to set up to capture Jack's shining moment.

His class was going to sing "The Wise Man Built His House Upon the Rock". Complete with construction hats. First point...it was a major accomplishment for Jack to get up on stage in front of an auditorium full of people in the first place. The first time he was supposed to be in a production at his old school he didn't make it. Wound up finding Momma and sitting with her instead. The song starts out good and he is doing the hand movements...maybe not singing, but as soon as the rain was supposed to come tumbiling down he begins the "give up". The give up consists of pulling the construction hat down over his head, leaning down and touching the floor, anything else to not participate in the song. But he never got up and ran off stage...so victory.

At the end of the song for the last verse he pulled back into it and actually jumped up at the end empatically when they sang you have to "Build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ". Basically jumped up and shouted Jesus Christ...but in a good way.

After the song as his class was walking down the from the stage they passed by right where Jodi was sitting. She overheard him telling his teacher, "Ms Bessie, that was a funny joke...I didn't do any of it!". So maybe he is made for the stage...

Wasted Potential

I was at work late last night...checked the mavs score before I left for home. It was 50-48 golden state. On the car ride home I listened to golden state absolutely suck the life out of the mavs with dunks and threes. By the time I got home the mavs were down 21 and it was lights out.

I ended up watching a bit into the fourth quarter once I got home, but in the few minutes that car ride took me to get home the whole mavs season was coming crashing down on their heads.

Now I am not a die hard mavs fan...my loyalties lie with the rockets (who by the way are trying to find ways to lose themselves) but I can feel for the diehard mavs fans. I think a loss like this is actually more crushing to a fan base than last year's meltdown in the playoffs.

At least last year the mavs ran through the spurs and suns and got to the finals. It is still crushing to lose...but there was enjoyment in getting the accomplishment.

I relate this to my hometown astros. The year they went to the world series and were swept that was tough to take. They were so close...but looking back the ride getting there was a lot of fun and the experience of seeing the astros in a world series was great. Now if you back up to 1998, the astros were head and shoulders above any team in the national league...bagwell and biggio in their prime. Big Unit randy johnson as the rent an ace who would get the stros to the promised land. What ends up happeing? They get bounced in the frist round against the wild card padres. That year still eats at me...thinking about the wasted potential of that team. Makes me sick even writing this right now.

I figure if you know a mavs fan you might want to give them a pat on the back...because wasted potential and what might have been hurt worst of all.
